Redesigned Website

HCIM WEBSITE

PROBLEM: The old HCIM website was not well-organized or cohesive. It confused prospective students and current students alike. Many of the pages were redundant, and there was no consistent look and feel.

AUDIENCE: The users are current & prospective HCIM students. The age range varies, but all users are above the age of 18.

ENVIRONMENT:

This system is purely a way to get information about the program and how to apply, as well as current resources.

The Old HCIM Website

By making this a scroll
design we were able to put the content into buckets, helping the user decide exactly where they want to be.

THE OLD SITE:

The prior site (shown above) had many issues associated with it. The header was not clickable, which is opposite of what a user expects from site "logo". In addition there was no footer, so that made it difficult for the user to find the contact information for the program, or navigate through the site.  On pages that scroll, there were no anchored menus, so that the user could quickly navigate to the part of the information they wanted.

KEY FEATURES/TASK ANALYSIS:

This system needed to be rebuilt from scratch, in fact much of the information on the old site was discarded, as it did not have consistent content or navigation. After a couple of iterations, we were able to agree on a design idea. As with many sites designed these days, this is a parallax scrolling site. There is a side navigation bar that helps the user throughout the sections. By making this a scroll design we were able to put the content into buckets, helping the user decide exactly where they want to be with little effort on their part.
